I'm sorry I don't actually fully understand your question. For myspace, you should be able to change your profile background without changing your home page background. 1) Your Home Page and your Profile are two different areas. Your Home Page is only viewable by you. Your Profile is viewable to only you and your friends if it's private OR everyone if it's public.
2) If you want to change your profile background, you need to insert the code in your "About Me" section.
3) Someone will only be able to view your private profile if they're your friend, if they aren't on your friends list, they should only get a generic view of Your Picture, Contact Table and a message saying "Profile Set to Private"(or something like that).
Sorry, I don't think that helps, but then again I might've misunderstood the question/explaination.
